KATRE was formed by close friends towards the end of 2014. They explore the areas of post-rock / post-metal synthesized with classic eastern tunes and experiment on the sustain of the sound. However, the distinguishing aspect of their musical approach lies in the subtle integration of the eastern tunes in Post-Metal, without being overly an “oriental” band.

The band takes its name from the old Arabic word katre which means the “drop”. The name refers to ingenuous melodious contributions of the band members to the ocean of life. One of the aspects making KATRE special is that 4 of its band members, Hasan, Hüseyin, Aycan and Okaner, live in different cities and thus continue & communicate their work online.

Hasan Koç (Guitars, fretless guitars & ebow)

Hasan is a research assistant and resides in Germany. Hüseyin is Hasan’s younger brother and is a sports journalist in Turkey. The brothers met Aycan, who is a communication engineer and lives in Baku currently, during their secondary school years and played together in a number of local gigs with various musicians. All three guys come from a small city on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey called İskenderun, where they grew together like three brothers.

Hüseyin Koç (Bass guitar)
Okaner Ertuğrul (Drums)

As Hasan and Hüseyin met Okaner in İstanbul, who is a famous Youtuber in Turkey. Okaner studied at the same university with Hüseyin and considering his musical taste, like-mindedness as well as drumming skills, it was only a matter of time that the brothers were attracted to him and embraced him as a further family member. Hours and hours were spent on discussions about the music in general and metal in particular, tapes and recordings were traded. Back in those days, they shared the dream of playing together in a band (there is even one track in KATRE’s debut album, which Hasan first played to Okaner back then!).

Aycan Meryumoğlu (Guitars)

Yet, due to Hasan’s departure to Germany, they had to wait until 2014 and formed KATRE, which embodies strong ties and friendship as well as a serious amount of experience collected after playing with many bands in different genres. Besides their own music projects, band members are involved in various recording and live projects.
